The plan for the new Town Hall of Santa Valburga in Val d\u2019Ultimo, in Alto Adige, was determined by the need for clear and rational organization of the spaces and the multiple functions to be housed in the building, as well as the need for coherent placement both in the built-up context and in that of the natural landscape.
\nThe new structure stands alongside the existing one, maintaining continuity on the ground and basement floors (with a new wall adjoining the existing one). On the first and second floors, the only link between the two buildings remains the stairway with the passage between the gallery and the Council Room.
\nThe new volume stands at about 1m from the existing building, creating a separation between the two. Between these somewhat introverted elements, a space is created that, on the contrary, opens towards the exterior with arcades and windows, allowing strong visual permeability from and towards the surrounding landscape.
\nThe library on the ground floor, conceived as an extension of the public space inside the building, gives rise to a precise relationship with the exterior.
\nIn order to strengthen this relationship with the external spaces, a number of hybrid areas (covered but not closed) were designed, such as the covered square on several levels, a meeting place for citizens and a link between the various functions of the building placed on different floors. The \u201cthree-dimensional\u201d character of this area creates an authentic open-air room, to which can be extended the events space of the library.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
