Sports Centre of Muggiò
The project for the Sports Centre of Muggiò provided the opportunity for architectural, structural and semantic experimentation, both for its imposing volume and for its location, which required dialogue and contrast with the urban texture and the landscape.
The impact of the project is disguised by formal strategies. The volumes are defined by the broken progress of the roof, which envelops the ample volumes like a sort of “shell”, creating an effect of suspension, separating the building from the ground while at the same time drawing attention to its access points.
Below the level of the guttering, the northern elevation has many glazed portions, creating a sense of opening towards the town.
For the exterior, the building envelope uses a ventilated façade system with a covering of pre-painted metal sheets. The division of the covering surfaces into panels and the design of the interspaces helps to define the geometry of the volumes and to further lighten the visual perception.
The spaces for meeting and representation are located on the street side, characterizing the front façade with a high degree of visual permeability.
