Athletics Ring – Track

The project by TECO+partners will rise in the green area to the south of the airport, where the new Parco Campovolo, an authentic 780,000m² green lung, will see the planting of 25,000 new trees. This will be joined, over the next few years, by other functions dedicated to sports and free time. A context of high environmental and ecological value, a genuine citadel of sport immersed in green, a service for the city and directly linked with the university campus of San Lazzaro.
The plan is oriented towards insertion in the landscape and integration between natural and artificial, to establish a relationship between manmade construction and the environment.
The building mingles with the terrain. A raised area surrounds it from the side of the railway line, gradually revealing itself to those who approach and creating a practicable level above the roof that continues in the park’s system of paths.
The athletics ring, compliant with CONI standards and with 8 tracks, creates a strong centrality towards which the other sports areas gravitate: zones equipped for throwing and jumping, for warming-up activities and for cross-country running. A stadium with 1,000 places is located above the covered area for indoor athletics.
