Poppi Home

Casa Poppi is intended as a Residential Community for people with psychophysical handicaps and/or mental disturbances, who require temporary or definitive removal from their family or context of origin. A place of mediation between people and society.
The project involved the overall restructuring, with the addition of a new storey, of a residence in Sorbara, a few kilometres from Modena and part of a simple, repetitive suburban landscape, conceived in line with tradition but with a contemporary language. The restructuring is respectful of the pre-existing building, conserving its openings but enclosing it in a new envelope that gives it a more irregular aspect, attenuating the rigorous isometric volume of the original construction. The project confers a contemporary and family image on the house that, with the volume of the external chimney and the vertical flue, acquires a reinforced image of domestic hospitality suited to the activities of the cooperative that commissioned the structure. The project generates a continuity with its context that transforms the building into a place of mediation between people and society. The architecture becomes one of the tools for the social integration of its inhabitants.
